OUR STORY

Long before anyone had the idea for the Cashman Family Foundation, founder Jay Cashman has been involved in a multitude of philanthropic efforts, both at home in Massachusetts and abroad. Before committing to starting a new organization, Jay and his team made contributions to other organizations building pedestrian bridges and providing Hurricane Matthew relief in Haiti. From

In 2016, Jay was trying to determine the best use for the parts of the recently disassembled Fore River Bridge. The bridge was being replaced, but the superstructure – the galvanized steel modular parts that comprised the bridge – still had plenty of life left and scrapping them seemed like a waste. Jay enlisted the help of his friend David Murphy, an engineer already active in the international development space. He proposed Jay to donate bridges to communities in need in Haiti. After careful research and meetings with government officials and religious leaders in Haiti, they decided the move forward with the project. In 2019, after years of planning, CFF broke ground on its first project in Perches, Nord-Est, Haiti. The bridge was completed in July 2019.

From the success of the Fore River Bridge repurposing, Cashman Infrastructure Partners, CFF’s Haiti-based NGO, was born. The CIP team is now working on getting ready for their next bridge projects and exploring branching into supporting other types of infrastructure work.

In addition to aiding in Haiti’s need for development, Cashman Family Foundation is involved in numerous domestic projects including the construction of an incline elevator that connects the Pilgrim Monument and Providencetown Museum with downtown Providencetown.
